I am a retired 75yr old male who always enjoyed walking and active sports. I first had dealings with Mr Carrothers in Jan 2020 when he carried out a hip replacement operation for me, the recovery of this did not go as well as I’d hoped but at the same time I was having problems with my knee. Mr Carrothers explained to me that due to the problem with my knee I wasn’t walking properly and this was hindering recovery of my hip. In late January this year Mr Carrothers carried out a partial knee replacement for me, this operation has been a total success, after six weeks I am now walking with no hip pain and only minimal discomfort in the knee, five weeks after the operation I was driving the car and living a normal life. I had my six weeks post op check-up on the 8th March with Mr Carrothers and I couldn’t be happier with the procedures he has carried out and the care and attention he has given me. During these strange times he was always available by phone or zoom to deal with any concerns I might have had. If you need a hip or knee replacement I would not hesitate to recommend Mr Carrothers.

Mr Carrothers is a most knowledgeable, professional and caring surgeon and human being. He performed my hip replacement 4 years ago and due to the great success of this I had no hesitation in going back to him when my knee started causing problems. As so many other patients have said, Mr Carrothers has a most gentle manner, a lovely subtle sense of humour and explains everything from beginning to end in language we non-medics can understand. He really does care about each individual patient and designs the best treatment and care for each and every one. I had a partial knee replacement by robotic-assisted surgery on 11th January which was a decision Mr Carrothers and I came to together having weighed up the pros and cons of partial v full. Seven weeks on I have thrown away the crutches and am walking pain-free and normally for the first time in some years. My scar is hardly noticeable (my hip scar is now non-existent) as in Mr Carrothers own words he 'takes pride in his work' and he really does, from the initial consultation and throughout the whole process. He told me that 'we are on this journey together' and it really does feel that way. Mr Carrothers will always be my first choice for any orthopaedics, so much so that I turned down a discount offered by my private health providers if I allowed them to choose my specialists. No way! I unreservedly recommend Andrew Carrothers.

This is a follow-up to my earlier review dated Jan 14, 21 which I wrote 48 hours post-surgery. At 56 years old and after leading a very full and active life the thought that I may require a hip replacement at some point never entered my mind. However, during the latter half of 2020, my left hip joint deteriorated rapidly resulting in chronic pain, disability and a degree of mental anguish. In November 2020, I had the good fortune to be referred to Dr Andrew Carrothers. His diagnosis was clear and unequivocal; in short, the hip was a mess and the only viable option for me was a total hip replacement. Dr Carrothers explained in detail the Mako robotic-assisted procedure. This procedure provides the surgeon with a high degree of precision, is minimally evasive which in turn greatly accelerates recovery. The rehabilitation and recovery journey for me has been rapid, relatively pain-free and I’ve experienced no side effects. One week post-surgery I hung up the crutches and by week three I was walking completely unaided. Sevens weeks on, strength, flexibility and endurance improve daily, at the time of writing I barely give the new hip joint a second thought. Without a doubt, Dr Carrothers is a highly skilled surgeon who has given me my life back. In addition to his surgical skills, his calm and compassionate manner provided me with a great deal of reassurance and confidence. In summary, I have no hesitation in recommending Carrothers Orthopaedics and will be forever grateful.

I was referred to Mr Carrothers following increasing levels of pain in my knee, having been a keen runner for many years. Mr Carrothers was extremely personable and really listened to me and explained things very well. After x-rays and an MRI scan diagnosed damage to my meniscus we discussed options and decided to go ahead with surgery. My pre-op and post-op consultations were excellent, Mr Carrothers explained the procedure, recovery and next steps very well and had plenty of time for me. Three weeks on, I am back to being able to walk around three miles pain-free and hope to build this up gradually and with physio alongside this. Eventually I hope to be able to run short distances again, something that wouldn't have been possible prior to the op. I'd like to say thank you to Mr Carrothers for his skill and care throughout my treatment and would highly recommend him to others.

I have now had my second arthroscopy both under Andrew Carrothers. A very professional surgeon always makes sure you understand the procedure and constantly asking if you have any worries. On the last procedure on the 18/01/2021 I was given 3 types of pain killers but did not need to use them, I was up walking the next day unaided was able to take a shower had no swelling and when I had the external stitches removed the nurse struggled to see them because of such a neat job. I would also like to give a special mention to his secretary Carol Morse, always very cheerful on the phone and very knowledgeable and nothing is too much trouble
